Store design in 2026: a world of the senses and technology

Contemporary retail is evolving from a “point of sale” into a “curator of experiences”, Forecasts indicate that 2026 will belong to projects that reject superficial opulence in favor of deep, sensory-driven aesthetics. This is the era of curated calm, where every interior element – from the texture of the counter to the angle of the light-serves to build an emotional connection with the customer.

Below are the key aesthetic trends that, in our view, will define brick-and-mortar stores in 2026:

1. Curated calm: the aesthetics of stillness and biomorphic forms

Store design in 2026 moves away from cold, overstimulating spaces. Curated calm becomes central – a pursuit of order, minimalism, and visual quiet. Sharp angles give way to biomorphic forms: soft lines and rounded furniture edges that naturally guide the customer’s gaze. Color palettes shift toward nature, with muted pastels, beiges, terracotta, and deep, atmospheric dark tones (moody darks) taking precedence.

Lighting is no longer purely functional. It becomes sculptural. Intelligent control systems adjust intensity and color temperature throughout the day, creating an almost cinematic atmosphere.

2. Haptic luxury and artisanal detail

In 2026, materials become a key carrier of brand identity. Instead of repetitive laminates, designers prioritize authenticity and artisanal touches – details that reveal the maker’s hand. Furniture is crafted from wood with pronounced grain, textured stone, and lime-based plasters. This return to craftsmanship gives interiors a distinctive, one-of-a-kind character. Aesthetics merge with sustainability: the use of reclaimed and recycled materials becomes an integral part of a store’s premium look.

3. “Invisible tech” – technology embedded in design

In line with digital integration trends, screens are no longer add-ons. Technology becomes invisible, seamlessly embedded into furniture and wall structures. Interactive surfaces and discreet LED panels activate only when a customer engages with a product. Integrated audio systems with directional sound enable the creation of sound zones without visual clutter. Combined with scent solutions built into furniture ventilation systems, this approach delivers a fully multisensory experience.

4. The store as a social space

By 2026, physical retail design emphasizes relaxation and community zones (social spaces). Stores evolve into meeting places, requiring hybrid furniture that combines product display with the comfort of a domestic living room.
