Ergo Store was attending Baselworld – the biggest watch and jewellery show in the world. This year’s edition lasted from 22 to 27 March.
The event with more than a century of tradition attracts the most important market players, who for a week are fighting for the attention of visitors, arranging their stands in attracive, often multi-storey boutiques. The market space in Swiss Basel resemble a big shopping center with premium brand stores, luxury shop windows and VIP zones. “Prestige, glamour are the first words that come to mind when entering the halls” – relates Ewa Marek, New Business Manager Ergo Store.
At this year’s Baselworld, we could meet brands such as Omega, Tissot, Longines, Rado, Corum, Bulgari, Swarovski, Roberto Coin, Messik or Harry Winston. However, the watches were also presented by producers who are commonly associated with other product categories, such as Michael Kors or Diesel. This is partly a result of the changing market situation, in which competition from technology companies manufacturing smartwatches (Apple, Samsung and others) enforces greater attractiveness and multi-functionality of watches. However, not all producers want to participate in this technological race. Brands such as Rolex or Tissot concentrate on the production of traditional timers.
Tradition meets modernity at Baselworld. The show is a great opportunity to establish and strengthen business relationships as well as exchange experiences and ideas. This is the place where everyone develops their network of contacts and looks for business opportunities, starting from the brands themselves, through partners, ending with buyers and suppliers. Manufacturers emphasize that Baselworld is the opportunity to have a big number of appointments, as well as the chance to contact with clients from different parts of the world. “Baselworld is worth one year of travelling” – concludes Jean-Claude Biver, president of the LVMH Watch Division. The international character of the event is noticeable at every step and apart from the guests from Europe, at Baselworld we can also meet representatives from Asia and North America.
For Ergo Store, visit in Switzerland was a great opportunity for business contacts, getting to know the community creating watches and jewelry, as well as observing market trends and new products.
A watch is not only a piece of clothing, but also an expression of social status, a fashion or sports accessory as well as a business tool. Therefore, observing trends in this industry may be particularly interesting and provide valuable conclusions. With Swiss precision, we are counting down the time until the next Baselworld edition, which will take place from 21-26 March 2019. See you there!
